Toulouse
In the heart of southern France, Toulouse feels more like a warm embrace than a big city. Its pink-brick buildings glow in the sunlight, giving the town its nickname La Ville Rose (the Pink City). Life here moves at a gentler pace—cafés spill out onto leafy squares, markets buzz with fresh produce, and rugby games bring locals together in true southern spirit.
Food is part of everyday life in Toulouse, with hearty dishes like cassoulet and local wines adding flavor to evenings spent outdoors. But the city is also a gateway: the Pyrenees are just a short trip away for mountain air and hiking, the medieval citadel of Carcassonne is within reach, and the Mediterranean coast lies a couple of hours to the east.
Toulouse is well connected: about 4 hours by high speed train (TGV) or 1 hour 15 minutes by plane from Paris, 2 hours by TGV from Bordeaux, and 3.5 hours by train from Marseille—or an easy drive if you prefer the road.
